This article covered ways to have successful social media marketing. The first item tackled is to have a plan and not just post everything and anything. The suggestions were to post about what your target audience finds relevant and post about the key selling features with your products. The second tip was to adjust the content to what platform it is on due to having different demographics or users on different platforms. Also, the content has to be altered depending on formats for each platform whether it be text, video or pictures. Finally, do not have more than three social media platforms. The last tip is to post original content following what others are doing may seem boring to consumers and it must appeal to their interests. (Csahiouni)
This is going back to the thought process of customer, context, and content as discussed in class regarding choosing a platform for marketing. The thoughts about what platform to choose are the same as how to structure the platform to be successful. When choosing the platform, the customer must be considered. If you are marketing to the wrong demographic then it’s a waste of time, money and effort without getting sales. The same idea can be applied to structuring the social media marketing effort. If you post content that is not relevant or engaging for the demographic your trying to get on this platform then that’s just throwing away money. Consumers would not pay attention to or act upon the marketing efforts.
The context of choosing the right platform is important. The demographics and number of users can vary greatly. If you pick the wrong one you are marketing to the wrong people. A waste of effort. To make sure you don’t do that a lot of research has to go into the target demographic about what they use more what they like and where they spend the most time. If the younger generation spends more time watching and engaged with videos and your marketing to that age range then you would choose YouTube and Facebook.  As class mentioned social media platforms can help brands learn more about demographics so this research could be done before launching their efforts.  A lot can be learned from locations, liked pages and consumers public posts about themselves.
It makes sense not to have more than three platforms as each takes time and staffing to keep updated, posting and monitoring.  Besides there is really no need as if you follow these tips and have a successful marketing strategy it will be enough and people will come to you.
